At Heritage Lyceum students study the Cambridge International A Level, a +16 university access course, the global gold standard. Our students do NOT go through the national baccalaureate system, they take the A Level exams and get the globally recognized Cambridge qualifications. We are proud to be the first to introduce it in Moldova, because these qualifications are accepted worldwide, by over 1400 institutions, including top-ranking universities. Moreover, in the Heritage Lyceum, our medium of instruction is exclusively English, meaning that our students get even more opportunities for their university studies and dream careers.

The Advantages of the AS & A Level Cambridge Curriculum

Heritage Lyceum is the only preuniversitary centre of study in Moldova following the Cambridge curriculum and offering globally recognized AS and A Level qualifications. Cambridge International AS & A Levels are international qualifications providing excellent preparation for university entry and education in Moldova and around the World. This is part of the Cambridge Advanced program, which is very flexible, Heritage learners having the freedom to select almost any combination from the wide variety of 55 subjects that are right for them – they either follow a broad course of study or specialise in a particular area. Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. The AS & A Level Program is meant for the 11th and 12th graders, typically aged 16 to 19 years.

The skills Heritage Lyceum learners develop within the A Level Program

One of the main reasons for choosing the Cambridge International AS & A Level program at Heritage Lyceum is the fact that it develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in: handling and evaluating different types of information sources, thinking logically and presenting coherent arguments, in-depth subject content, independent thinking, making judgements, recommendations and decisions. Also, the learners become confident, responsible and innovative.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Subjects

Due to the fact that the Cambridge International AS & A Level curriculum is so flexible, it is not only helpful for the Heritage Lyceum learners who can actually choose and combine what they will study, but it is also a proof of respecting their time. The whole range of 55 subjects gives them the possibility to either follow a broad course of study or specialise in a particular area. Depending on the career they want to follow, the students will be guided to select the essential and recommended subjects. To complete A Level successfully with good grades, students will need to invest a significant amount of time studying independently to increase their depth of understanding. All A Level courses include some untaught time, which is spent in private study and in library sessions.

Students wishing to study A Level will be able to choose a combination of any 4 subjects from the list:

Gaining Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications

Learners can choose from a range of assessment options to gain Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications:
1. Take the Cambridge International AS Level only, usually for one of the subjects. The syllabus content is half a Cambridge International A Level.
2. Take a ‘staged’ assessment route – take the Cambridge International AS Level in one examination series and complete the final Cambridge International A Level at a subsequent series. AS Level marks can be carried forward to a full A Level twice within a 13-month period. The staged assessment route is not possible in all subjects. The outcomes awarded for Cambridge International AS Level language syllabuses cannot be carried forward to Cambridge International A Level.
3. Take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in the same examination session, usually at the end of the course.

Reporting Achievement & Examinations

Each subject that a learner takes receives a separate grade. Grades are benchmarked using internationally recognised grades, which have clear guidelines to explain the standards of achievement. The Cambridge International A Level is reported on a grade scale from A* (highest) to E (minimum required performance). There is no A* grade for Cambridge International AS Levels, which run from grade A to E. Exams in all subjects are compulsory in A Level. Cambridge International AS & A Level examination series are held twice a year, in June and November. Results are issued in August and January.
