Baroness Janet Royall to visit the Republic of Moldova for the first time at the invitation of Heritage International School

31 March 2023

At the initiative of Heritage International School, British Baroness Janet Royall is set to visit the Republic of Moldova for the first time. From April 2-4, 2023, she will be in Chisinau, engaging in several meetings with students, teachers, and education authorities. Her visit aims to strengthen existing educational partnerships and create new opportunities for collaboration and exploration of British education and culture, in line with Heritage’s mission of fostering a multicultural educational environment and developing global citizens.

Janet Royall has enjoyed a fascinating career in British and European Union politics and is currently a member of the House of Lords in the UK parliament. Since 2017, she has served as the principal of Somerville College in Oxford, the alma mater of former British politician Margaret Thatcher. Her experience is essential for Heritage, the only Cambridge School in Moldova, which prepares students for the world’s top universities.

Rob Ford, CEO & Director of Heritage International School:I have known and worked with Baroness Royall for a number of years, previously as a school leader in the UK. Jan is a tenacious advocate for young people, social justice and education, especially for girls. Jan's Founders' Lecture in the unique Heritage series, delivered to students across Moldova, really inspired young people. I am really pleased that from a cup of tea in the House of Lords in London a few weeks ago, Jan is coming to Moldova to support the innovative international education of Heritage as well as the wider national education community. Jan asked me in London what she could do practically to support education in Moldova and from this visit we hope to have a declaration of understanding between Heritage, UTM and the University of Oxford to develop teacher training and student opportunities. The future really does start here.”

Baroness Royall’s itinerary will begin with a tour of Heritage International School, including the new Lyceum building set to be launched, followed by a Q&A session with Lyceum students, and a series of artistic performances by Primary students.

To share her educational experience, encourage idea exchange, and establish multiple partnerships, the Baroness will meet with Valentina Chicu, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Moldova in the field of education and research; Angela Cutasevici, Deputy Mayor of Chisinau; and a group of high school teachers from Chisinau.

In addition, she will visit the campus of the Technical University of Moldova and be received at the British Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, where she will meet with the Deputy Head of Mission, Edward Inglett.
