It has been a bumper summer of success for Heritage International School as we celebrated further academic excellence across our communities.
Following the hosting of the World Scholars’ Cup (WSC) Chisinau round in Moldova round in May, our staff, students and supporting families headed for London in July for the global round of WSC at the prestigious venue of University College of London (UCL). Our students went up against very experienced schools from around the World and scored a number of notable successes in team and individual competitions over several days. Our Academic Director, Mrs. Inga Chiosa, and Deputy Academic Director, Mrs. Tatiana Popa, accompanied the students and were extremely proud as we flew the flag high in the global arena of education for Heritage Moldova. Mrs. Popa is heading off to the USA in November as the senior WSC Heritage team are competing at Yale University and we wish our students well and success.
Our summer collaboration with Myddleton College and Adcote School in the UK, saw our first ever overseas international summer school and Mrs. Tatiana Popa led a group of Heritage students to trail blaze this unique opportunity to take part in activities with students from all over the globe. Heritage students stayed at the historic Adcote School and visited London, Stratford, Shrewsbury, the UNESCO Ironbridge Gorge as well as Oxford. Baroness Jan Royall, Principal of Somerville College, University of Oxford, invited our students and Mrs. Popa for afternoon tea in her college and discussed how we can further develop our partnership following Baroness Royall’s visit to Heritage in April. Baroness Royall will be back to see us in Moldova in the new year.
Along with nearly 250,000 students around the globe, we awaited the August exam results from Cambridge for IGCSEs, AS and A Levels. This year, exam conditions, marking and grading have gone back to pre-pandemic levels of 2019 and we knew this would be tough in the World arena of education for all students to compete at these highest of levels and academic excellence. We were very pleased with our results overall that saw a number of strong individual performances at A Level and our 1st ever cohort off to universities around the world from medicine at the University of California, engineering in Glasgow to universities here in Moldova.
At AS one of the most notable stand out performances came from Andrea Ghimpu with 5 Grade As and as well as being the holder of one of our prestigious scholarships Andrea is also off to the University of Oxford this September as she is through to the final of the John Locke Essay competition. We are extremely proud of this achievement and the example of the hard work and dedication Andrea’s ethos exemplifies as an outstanding global student.
Our Post 16 A Level success is linked to the construction of the 1st ever Cambridge Lyceum in Moldova that will be officially opened by dignitaries this September. The finishing touches were added for the new study garden this summer and we are looking forward to this World Class new Post 16 centre providing an outstanding learning environment for our students as they study a range of A Level subjects to access global universities and local universities in Moldova.
Our 3rd IGCSE cohort of students will be taking their place in the new Lyceum from the 1st September and we celebrated great success in their exam results in August with particularly outstanding results in Global Perspectives, German, History, French, Math and English. Sabina Turcan achieved 7 x A* and 1 A and this fantastic individual achievement, against schools and students across the World in these toughest of global exams, is a real testament to her commitment and her award of a school scholarship for her abilities and contribution to school life as a student leader. Sabina is also taking up the presidency this September of the Global School Alliance’s “Student Councils” organisation, with 100s of schools represented in this network.
CEO and Director, Rob Ford, starting his 5th year at Heritage, as Moldova’s 1st international school group enters its 7th year, said “...How proud I am of the staff, families but above all the remarkable students of Heritage for what they have been through in this tumultuous decade of a pandemic to war, and we all still keep focussed on education, success and the future. This is where we find the hope and Heritage staff started their August training this week with new faces from around the World, from the USA to South Africa and the UK. The school has a record number of students and families joining from the international community and across Moldova and everyone is looking forward to another successful year at Heritage when we welcome students back on the 1st September.”
