The final round of the 2024 International “World Scholar’s Cup” (WSC) competition brought together 1,500 of the world's best students (only 2% of all participants in global rounds this year), including 13 students from Heritage International School, who successfully represented the Republic of Moldova. The finalists tested their knowledge and quick thinking from November 13-20 at Yale University in the United States, following victories in local, regional, and global rounds of this renowned competition for students.
Tatiana Popa, Deputy Academic Director and Head of Global Education at Heritage: “It has been a mind-blowing experience for our students to go to the USA for the final round and compete against the best students in the world. It’s such events that get them out of their comfort zone and make them grow. I have seen change in our students that participated last year - they built their confidence, they know where their potential is, and they never stop challenging themselves. This is a holistic approach to education and learners benefit in a variety of ways, but undoubtedly, all of them change for the better.”
Heritage International School's team achieved exceptional results in the final 'Tournament of Champions,' excelling in team writing, quizzes, individual tests, and debates. The students' academic performance was rewarded with 18 gold medals and 35 silver medals.
Andreea, Grade 9 student at Heritage: “Participating in the World Scholars Cup was an incredible experience that improved my thinking, teamwork and creativity. It’s an amazing opportunity to meet new people from all around the world.”
Sanda-Bianca, Grade 8 student at Heritage: “The WSC is a prestigious event that gave me the chance to explore new horizons and connect with young people from all over the world. The experience of reaching the global stage, held at Yale University, was unforgettable, filled with intellectual challenges and memories that will last for a long time. The moments we shared ideas during debates and conversations were special. I realized that although we come from different backgrounds, there are values and passions that unite us.”
Over a week, the students participated in both academic and cultural events organized by the competition. Activities included a cultural fair, scavenger hunt, field trips, and other engaging activities for the participants, culminating in the Scholar’s Ball – a dance party and one of the most anticipated events of the round.
Ilinca, Grade 9 student at Heritage: “The World Scholar's Cup was an amazing experience where I got to meet interesting people from around the world, to find out lots of new things and develop skills like debates and writing. We also had the chance to visit New Haven, Connecticut in the US which offered us a view of a place very different from Moldova. I'm very glad to have participated in WSC and I strongly recommend others to take part as well.”
Every year, the “World Scholar’s Cup” competition brings together over 50,000 students from around 60 countries, with only 1,000-1,500 global round finalists advancing to the final stage at Yale. This year, six teams (18 students) from Heritage International School qualified for the Tournament of Champions, with 13 students deciding to travel and participate in the USA.
In this regard, the entire Heritage community warmly congratulates the participants for their outstanding achievements and the courage they demonstrated on this global stage.
