After-school programme at Heritage

06 June 2018

The concept of the modern school is widely discussed nowadays. School and learning are more likely associated with hard work, tests and high academic expectations. Although our number one priority is maximising examination success, school is not just about academic study. A holistic approach to education focuses on the whole person. Every person’s intelligence and abilities are far more complex than his or her scores in standardized tests.

All extra activities for school students are a means to enhance social interaction, leadership, healthy recreation, self-discipline and self-confidence. Participation in extracurricular activities helps pupils develop important skills and interests, so we encourage them to get involved in as many as possible.

The students can express themselves using the various Art techniques, they create handmade gifts and cards; team sports also improve self-confidence and help students understand the importance of teamwork and fair-play. Learners can take part in basketball, football and gymnastics. Also, the quality of our Music standards is high and many children take extra instrumental or singing lessons. The songs performed by our soloists and groups are presented on different occasions and add real magic to each event. We believe Drama club is educationally important and every class regularly stages plays and improves public speaking. In addition, eTwinning Club, Chess Club, History Club, and Design Club are founded to develop the student’s personality intellectually, socially, emotionally, and aesthetically. Filmmaking Club and Public Speaking have been designed and planned to help the students think critically and express themselves creatively.

Academic subjects and extra-curricular activities complement each other and develop a well-rounded, socially skilled, and healthier student. In our school there are so many possible extra-curricular activities that each student can choose one that appeals to him or her personally.  A seriously fun learning STEM club fosters a child’s natural curiosity about the world to think critically and solve problems. Learning can and should be fun, Robotics program is specifically for students who want to explore challenging and fun projects beyond "just the build".

Students who are involved in our extra-curricular clubs tend to improve their academic grades as well due to increased self-esteem, motivation and better time management. Our students attend Math club, Chemistry club, Intensive English and Reading club. They learn useful new skills from their chosen activity, become better organized in the classroom and in integrating these activities into their everyday school lives, they learn not only Russian, French or German, but time management, critical thinking, teamwork and social skills.

Holistic education helps the person feel part of the wholeness of the universe, and learning will naturally be enchanted and inviting. By using real-life experiences, current events, the dramatic arts and other lively sources of knowledge in place of textbook information, teachers can kindle the love of learning. In March Schools from Moldova were invited to participate in the international academic competition World Scholar's Cup, organized and hosted by Heritage International School, in partnership with the FLEX Program and Debate Academy Moldova. The students enjoyed debating diverse topics, improved the ability to make connections and flexibility of mind. The winners of the regional event will participate in the Global Competition, held in Barcelona, Spain.

Modern education is not just about academic study, it includes work in library, laboratory and workshop, participation in games and sports on the playground and study visits and field trips.

Heritage has it all.
