Heritage to support distance learning in all Moldovan schools

15 March 2020

During the weekend the Heritage Director had an extraordinary meeting with the Minister of Education in our school to look at how our distance learning plan approach is allowing ‘normal’ school to continue as the Covid-19 crisis unfolds. The Minister came to ask us to support all schools across Moldova to find a solution to schools being closed for the foreseeable future.

Rob Ford mentioned that we have a moral social responsibility to work with all schools in Moldova as a national education community and the Minister was deeply impressed with our school, our innovative approach and our willingness to collaborate and share. A lot of directors in the state sector are considering closing down their schools completely and not paying their staff under the legislations. These are our colleagues and they have families to keep and we owe it to all of them as a duty to ensure we do what we can. Our model isn’t going to be easy to replicate but we will innovate and starting with the idea of the ‘new normal’ as a mindset and that this is not a couple of snow days, will help.

The minister thanked the school and in a unique afternoon of collaboration and brainstorming we have a national educational solution – a partnership to allow children access to quality education in Moldova through the model we have developed to combat the school closures in the Covid-19.

The Ministry has been given our online safety policy, DLP, examples and today school leaders from across Moldova will come and be trained on our distance learning model and see it in action as Heritage continues to operate as a school, delivering high quality education online to its school community.

We support the efforts of our country to ensure no child suffers through schools closing and we will share our expertise with our colleagues across Moldova. This will transform learning in Moldova for all schools, as digital learning online is established in the country based on the Heritage innovative model devised as a practical response from the best international education examples in our global education partnerships as an outward facing school.

In this escalating crisis this is an incredible moment for our school, and we are proud of the example we have set for Moldova in our education model.
