Nine reasons to choose an international school in Moldova for your child

14 May 2018

What kind of school do you want for your child: one with a strict discipline and learning which restrict the young person’s curiosity about the world or one in which students have the freedom to choose and express themselves, developing their skills?  Why not choose an international school which combines the best of both models – practicing rigorous study and effective learning, encouraging creativity and personality development, applying innovative international curriculums?
Parents and children in Moldova have many reasons to choose an international school. Here are nine of them, which we found visiting the Heritage International School.

  1. Multicultural environment

International schools tend to have a mix of both, students and teachers from different parts of the globe. Parents who relocate to Moldova favor international schools to minimize the cultural shock for their children in a new country. As for those residing in the country, enrolment in such schools immerses their children into a dynamic multicultural environment, and introduces subjects in an international context. In such an environment children learn to appreciate cultural diversity, to respect differences necessary for successful co-existence while valuing their own heritage.

  1. Skills for the future

Career choices are altering dramatically today all over the world. An International school is focused on innovative research-based educational practices. Learning is carried out through inquiry and hands-on activities as opposed to recall and speed of output. Children find their passion through higher level thinking in order to apply and transfer knowledge in new situations. International schools provide students with the freedom to explore and discover a whole new world of creativity. They facilitate the development of a range of skills in the area of work habits, thinking and personal, social and health education which are distinct in comparison to other institutions where the recall of knowledge and exam performance are of primary importance.

  1. International standards in education

International schools are required to conform to external quality standards. Heritage is the first international school established in Moldova, but also the country’s only school to have obtained the status of “Cambridge School”. The resources used for teaching, class size, qualification of teachers, etc. for Cambridge Schools are standardized across countries. For people moving to the country or parents seeking the best education for their children Cambridge International standards provide a measure of assuredness.
International schools like Heritage provide high-quality education which promises to stand in good stead even if students relocate to other countries. Students who receive international education and the globally recognized Cambridge qualifications leave school well-prepared for further study and work.

  1. Individual approach to each student

International schools offer child-centred education. The teachers check what each individual child is able to do and start from there. Schools of this nature often keep their class sizes small to maximize the benefits for the students and be able to allocate the needed attention to each child in the class. As customized learning is coming to the forefront, more and more international schools, including Heritage, have adopted such approach.

  1. Another level of language learning

Multilingualism is a key part of the school experience of an international school. While local schools offer a limited experience in foreign languages, Heritage teaches in Romanian/Russian and intensive English as instruction languages. The learners are supported by the English Language Learning Specialist (ELLS) who is involved in the acquisition of English. In the enrichment programme there are also several language choices such as French or German. And while helping learners to develop impeccable spoken and written English language skills is important, Heritage also has a programme which provides Romanian/Russian language instruction for foreign students living in Moldova.

  1. More than classes – enrichment activities in a conducive environment

International schools educate the whole child, encouraging learning through a wider range of extracurricular activities which are not usually available in other schools. The educational experience at Heritage does not stop after classes – enrichment activities play a great part in the learning process. Learners choose their clubs and occupations from the extensive extracurricular programme of Heritage International School: foreign languages, volunteer club, volleyball, basketball, football, drama, music and school band, dance, voice and chorus interpretation, photographic art, LEGO Education, STEM education, Robotics, chess, gymnastics and some more. In its effort to ensure the upbringing of the whole child, the environment is purposefully build to suit the learning and safety needs of its diverse learners – from the spacious Sport Hall to the fully equipped laboratories and the nearly-completed swimming pool.
The school sponsors events and competitions which allow students to compete against or join with students from other schools in a variety of ways, as the first „World Scholar’s Cup” in Moldova, hosted in March by Heritage.

  1. Access to technology

Today students and teachers should have access to 21st-century tools in the classroom. Heritage International School values technology: teachers use interactive whiteboards and projection systems, students use laptops and tablets in the classroom, they have access to well-equipped science labs, STEM labs, Robotics labs, etc. Technology is not only in the form of devices used for learning; technology is part of the learning itself, as each child has their own reading account, whole classes practise online classrooms and Cambridge International tests are taken on screen.

  1. Qualifications opening doors to universities around the world

Students are no longer automatically opting to study in their own countries but looking for international opportunities. Students with an international education are better prepared for entrance to universities in other countries.
Heritage academic programme based on Cambridge International curriculum ensures that a student’s final qualifications open the academic doors throughout the world.

  1. Teaching responsibility in the community

Building a strong sense of community is very important for an educational institution on its way of being socially responsible. At Heritage International School, children, parents and teachers are part of an entity which engages in community development, volunteers, protects the environment, and is part of innovative educational projects. The institution is committed to act with responsibility in order to develop Heritage community and have a positive impact on society. For all these activities, a dedicated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme has been created – “Go Heritage”, which focuses on 4 key areas: quality education, ethics, civic spirit and community. This Programme makes Heritage the only educational institution in Moldova to develop such a complex CSR philosophy in practice. As part of the vision of the school, “Go Heritage” aims at imparting the IPC and Cambridge International learners’ characteristics such as caring, reflection, innovation, responsibility, respect and others.
